Comparable to the Kastanienallee, there is a rather strange place, an area flattened with coarse sand...
Hm, one would almost think this place would invite you to play…
Yes, of course it invites you to play! Because we are dealing with a boules court here.

If you like „quietly rolling a ball“ with friendly people outside, then boule is your game! This French word in German means nothing more than "ball", which is the name of the main device of the game. At that time, it was a wooden ball about the size of a tennis ball; today, it usually is a steel ball.

The weight of the balls, as well as the dimensions of the playing field, can be different. However, the main idea of the game always stays the same: there are usually two teams that play against each other so that you can have as many players as you like. Nevertheless, you should make sure that the teams do not become too big; otherwise, the breaks between the individual throws of the participants will be too long. Commonly, boules are played in two, four or six.

The aim of the game is to place one or more balls closer to the target ball, known as the Cochonnet, than the other team. If you say: "I know this game as 'boccia' or 'pétanque', then you are right because that is what it is called in France or Italy.

Are you aware that the game of boules is a threat to the state? At least the French kings of the 14th century thought so. They forbade their soldiers to play it because they completely forgot to practice with their weapons.

One can just say: It is a pity that the peace-making effect of playing boules has not been spread any further. After all, in the 16th century, the famous Medicine Faculty of Montpellier appreciated the value of the game of boules much more.

It said that there are no rheumatism or similar joint problems for patients of any age that could not be impeded by this game.

If that's not motivation! Come on! Treat yourself to a bit of healthy French lifestyle and play boule!
